I will admit that I have a gorgeous well framed copy of  the book “The Kiss” which is written by Gustav Klimt which is hung up in my room. I was lucky to take a trip a lot when I was growing up, and I used to spend my time in museums. Because of some reason, I became enthralled by some paintings of people kissing.

Was it amazing that people did the world over?

By junior high school, I remember asking my few friends how often they saw their parents kissing and was surprised when a lot of them said ‘Not At All’. I loved to see my parents kiss each other, It made them seem more to me. I did not understand this at the time -but there are actual Kissing Scientists who study about kissing. Those are called Philematologists and they have discovered a wide range of the benefits of kissing such as:

Kissing reduces the pressure hormone cortisol and increase serotonin levels in our brain; Kiss has also been considered to lower anxiety and has similar benefits to meditation.

2. Kissing makes us happier

Kissing improves our mood by growing endorphins, which are our feel-good hormones.

3. Kissing keeps us healthy

It improves our immunity by releasing antibodies that kill germs, And it helps us avoid cavities by increasing saliva that clean our teeth. It shows that our saliva secretes natural antibiotics when we kiss.

4. Kissing calms us down and promotes pleasure

It increases levels of oxytocin otherwise known as the “love hormone” which calms us down. Kissing someone also reduces pain throughout our saliva which contains a kind of anesthetic and increases pleasure by releasing dopamine.

 

5. Kissing strengthens our relationships

It promotes togetherness and those couples who kiss regularly live five years longer than those who don’t.
